Flitches

For centuries European Manufactures have live sawn logs straight through the heart as their standard method of production. This is completely different than the way hardwood logs in North America are sawn. The resulting boards when lumber is live sawn have the sap localized to the edges, and the defects are generally more centered in the board. Often times flitches are sold unedged and are generally the full product of the log with some jacket boards and possibly pithy rustic boards removed.

European craftsmen of furniture, millwork, cabinetry and other hardwood products are accustom to working with flitches and can be frustrated by the lack of availability in North American Species. There are a few North American manufacturers that have recognized this and provide flitches as a·niche product from smaller sawmill operations. Midwest Hardwood Corporation brings to the flitch market the ability to produce most of the highly desired species, in volume, properly dried and measured the way European buyers are accustomed to.
